De Beers launches restructuring of Diamdel unit

(Reuters) - Diamond giant De Beers has launched a restructuring of its Diamdel sales operation as part of a wider review to boost efficiency of the group, an official said on Friday.

De Beers has entered a 30-day consultation period with the staff of global units of Diamdel, which sells gems to clients who are not among specially selected "sightholders", London-based spokeswoman Lynette Gould said.

De Beers agrees to sell diamonds to Canada cutters

De Beers Canada will have to offer 10 percent of the diamonds it mines from its Snap Lake operation to cutters and polishers in the Northwest Territories, according to an agreement with the territory's government released on Tuesday.

The deal, which has been in the works for several years and is in line with the northern Canadian region's policy of supporting its secondary diamond industry, takes effect in 2008.

De Beers to seal new empowerment deal - source

Diamond giant De Beers and the government are due to announce another South African black empowerment deal on Friday, an industry source said on Thursday.

De Beers finalised a 3.7-billion-rand deal last year to bring black investors into its South African business unit, but the latest deal would be extended to the actual mine operations, the source, who declined to be named, told Reuters.
