UPDATE 3-Bush tours site of wrecked Minnesota bridge

(Reuters) - MINNEAPOLIS, Aug 4 - Divers searched for bodies
in debris in the murky Mississippi on Saturday as President
George W. Bush toured the site of this week's deadly rush-hour
bridge collapse and promised quick federal help in rebuilding.




Bush got a bird's eye view of the ruined bridge in a
10-minute helicopter tour, then donned an orange hard hat and
wind-breaker to walk a section of the 40-year-old bridge on
foot as rain fell.

Australia May Sign Up to U.S. Accord to Promote Nuclear Energy, Recycling

(Bloomberg) -- Australia may consider signing up to
a U.S. accord to promote the recycling of nuclear waste and the
expanded use of atomic energy worldwide, Foreign Minister
Alexander Downer said.

The U.S. Department of Energy approached Australia
suggesting the two countries update their 1982 nuclear
cooperation agreement, Downer told the Australian Broadcasting
Corp. today, adding the talks may broach Australian involvement
in President George W. Bush's Global Nuclear Energy
Partnership.

UPDATE 1-Bush vetoes popular stem-cell research bill

(Reuters) - WASHINGTON, June 20 - President George W. Bush on
Wednesday vetoed legislation to expand federally funded
embryonic stem cell research, triggering an uphill battle in
the Democratic-led Congress to override him.




Two-thirds majority votes would be needed in the Senate and
House of Representatives to overcome Bush's opposition and make
the bill law, and backers conceded they are short of support.

Bush to Wrest G-8 Climate Concessions, Escape Fixed Emission-Cut Targets

(Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush moved closer
to winning a Group of Eight commitment to combat global warming
without shackling the U.S. to a specific target for emissions
cuts.

After giving ground to European critics last week by
proposing an international conference to stem man-made pollution
that is overheating the earth's atmosphere, Bush balked at
European calls for a goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions in
half by 2050.

Zoellick on whirlwind tour for World bank job

(Reuters) - Robert Zoellick, U.S. President George W. Bush's nominee to head the World Bank, will travel to Africa, Europe and Latin America to lobby for the job starting on Monday, and said he wants to hear directly from governments about their development priorities.

"I want to leave no stone unturned in showing people I am serious in reaching out and hearing their perspectives. It shows courtesy and respect," the former deputy secretary of state told reporters during a call before he left for Ghana, his first stop in Africa.

UPDATE 1-Bush seeks momentum for immigration overhaul

(Reuters) - YUMA, Ariz., April 9 - His chances for domestic policy wins dimming and overshadowed by debate over Iraq, President George W. Bush visited the U.S.-Mexican border on Monday to demand that lawmakers work with him to overhaul immigration law.

Standing along the border on a hot day, Bush saw a new double-layer of fencing that Border Patrol officials say has cut attempted crossings by illegal immigrants in the past year.
