GE finds improper revenue booking at rail unit

(Reuters) - "Revenues had been inappropriately accelerated so that they
were recognized in the fourth quarter of each of the of the
years 2000 through 2003 rather than in the first quarter of the
following year," the company said in an SEC filing.




Spokesman Russell Wilkerson said that "a few" employees had
been involved in the problem, but declined to provide a precise
figure. GE employs more than 300,000 people.

UPDATE 1-MicroStrategy <MSTR.O Q2 earnings fall

(Reuters) - Shares of the company were down nearly 7 percent at $79.90
in early electronic trade after closing at $85.58 Thursday on
the Nasdaq.




The business software maker said it was considering
strategic alternatives for its Alarm.com and Angel.com
businesses. Revenue from these units were $8.3 million, or
about 10 percent of its total revenue in the latest quarter.

Reddy Ice Q2 earnings below market view, cuts '07 outlook

(Reuters) - The company now expects a full year profit of $14.8 million
to $18.9 million, down from its prior view of $16.3 million to
$20.4 million. It expects earnings per share of 67 cents to 86
cents, down from its previous view of 74 cents to 93 cents.




Revenue in 2007 is expected to be $345 million to $355
million, down from its prior view of $350 million to $360
million.

R.H. Donnelley posts quarterly profit

(Reuters) - Donnelley said second-quarter profit totaled $24.9 million,
or 34 cents per share, compared with a loss of $79.8 million,
or $1.15 per share, a year earlier. Year-ago results included
costs related to its purchase of Dex.




Revenue rose to $666.6 million from $432.3 million.

UPDATE 1-Check printer Deluxe posts profit, ups 2007 view

(Reuters) - Net income for the St. Paul, Minnesota-based company was
$36 million, or 69 cents per share. A year earlier, it posted a
net loss of $2.4 million, or 5 cents per share, reflecting a
large write-off.




Revenue fell 1 percent to $399.9 million, while selling,
general and administrative expenses dropped 4 percent.

UPDATE 1-STATS ChipPAC quarterly profit falls

(Reuters) - The Singapore-based company posted a second-quarter net
profit of $7.4 million, or 4 cents per diluted American
Depositary Share , compared with a net profit of $18
million, or 9 cents per share, in the year-earlier quarter.




Revenue fell 12 percent to $370.2 million.

Meredith posts higher quarterly profit

(Reuters) - The publisher of Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle magazines reported net earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter of $51.5 million, or $1.05 per share, up from $48.6 million, or 97 cents a share, a year before.



Revenue rose 2.1 percent to $428.5 million.

UPDATE 1-Freeport-McMoRan's quarterly profit triples

(Reuters) - Net earnings rose to $1.1 billion, or $2.62 per share, from
$367 million, or $1.74 per share, a year earlier, the
Phoenix-based company said.




Revenue quadrupled to $5.81 billion from $1.42 billion.
This was the first full quarter that included earnings and
production from Phelps Dodge, which Freeport acquired in
March.

UPDATE 1-NJ's Commerce Bancorp profit falls 3 pct

(Reuters) - Net income for the Cherry Hill-based company fell to $76.9
million, or 39 cents per share, from $79.5 million, or 41
cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 12 percent to $519.4
million, though net interest margin, the gap between what
Commerce earns on loans and pays on deposits, fell to 3.22
percent from 3.39 percent.




Commerce last month replaced Chief Executive Vernon Hill,
who founded the company in 1973, under pressure from regulators
critical of the bank's business dealings with insiders. These
included real estate dealings with Hill's own partnerships, and
services by his wife's architectural design firm.

UPDATE 1-Zarlink posts first-quarter loss

(Reuters) - Zarlink, which is buying semiconductor firm Legerity
Holdings Inc. for $134.5 million in cash, said it lost $5.0
million, or 5 cents a share, in the three months ended June 29.
That's down from a profit of $4.2 million, or 3 cents per
share, in the same period a year earlier.




Revenue was $30.6 million, down from $38.4 million a year
earlier.

Altera profit climbs slightly as costs fall

(Reuters) - Net income was boosted, in part, by a reduction in costs
from the year-ago quarter and a rise in interest and other
income.




The company also said sales of its new products climbed 26
percent from the previous quarter. Revenue declined 4 percent
to $319.7 million a year ago.

Hasbro profit beats views on Transformers demand

(Reuters) - Excluding the charge, earnings rose to $41.3 million, or 24 cents a share. Analysts on average were expecting 18 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates.




Revenue climbed 31 percent to $691.4 million from $163.6 million due to strong sales of the Littlest Pet Shop, Nerf and Playskool toys. The analysts' average estimate was $647.76 million.

SanDisk profit falls on decline in memory prices

(Reuters) - BOSTON, July 19 - SanDisk Corp said on Thursday its quarterly profit tumbled 70 percent as the world's No. 1 maker of flash memory cards suffered amid sharp declines in the prices of its storage products.



Fiscal second-quarter net income fell to $28.5 million, or 12 cents a share, compared with $95.6 million, or 47 cents, in the year-earlier period. Revenue rose 15 percent to $827 million during the quarter, which ended July 1.

Share prices are as of 11:40 a.m. in New York.

Avici Systems Inc. (AVCI US) rose $3.83, or 45 percent, to
$12.25. The maker of equipment that directs Internet traffic said
in a statement sent by Business Wire that second-quarter net
income rose to 82 cents a share from 58 cents a year earlier.
Revenue increased to $29.6 million from $25.3 million.

Bank of America profit up 5 pct, bad loans soar

(Reuters) - Excluding items, profit was $1.30 per share, according to Reuters Estimates, topping the analysts' average forecast by 10 cents.




Revenue rose 7 percent to $19.56 billion. Analysts on average were expecting $18.49 billion.

Russia's Rostelekom 2006 net profit jumps 49 pct

(Reuters) - Revenues also rose by around 50 percent to stand at 61.56
billion roubles, compared with 40.96 billion roubles in 2005.




Rostelekom, in which state-controlled telecoms holding
Svyazinvest owns 51 percent, said its international outgoing
traffic rose 9.2 percent from 2005, while ingoing traffic was up
31.2 percent.

UPDATE 1-Cognos reports jump in first-quarter profit

(Reuters) - The business-intelligence software maker said it earned
$22.4 million, or 25 cents per share, for the three months
ended May 31. That was up from a profit of $14.5 million, or 16
cents a share, in the same period a year earlier.




The company's adjusted earnings hit 32 cents per share, up
from 22 cents a share a year earlier. Revenue was $236.7
million, up from $217 million a year before.

National Semi profit, revs beat targets

(Reuters) - National Semi also said inventory was relatively low, the latest sign it worked through a glut.




Revenue rose 5.8 percent from the preceding quarter, with higher demand for power management, audio, amplifier, data converter and display chips and other products.
