Gold Heads for Weekly Decline in New York on Dollar Rebound; Silver Drops

(Bloomberg) -- Gold fell in New York, heading for
the biggest weekly decline in seven weeks, on speculation a
strengthening dollar will reduce the precious metal's appeal as
an alternative investment. Silver also dropped.

The dollar rallied to a two-week high against the euro
today after a U.S. Commerce Department report showed the economy
grew last quarter at the fastest pace in more than a year. Gold,
sold in the U.S. currency, rose to a three-month high of $695.40
an ounce on July 25, a day after the dollar touched a record low
of $1.3852 against the euro.

Gold in Asia Little Changed as Dollar's Decline Boosts Investment Appeal

(Bloomberg) -- Gold was little changed in Asia after
rising to the highest in more than a month yesterday as the U.S.
dollar's decline boosted demand for the metal as an alternative
investment. Silver was also little changed.

Gold generally moves in the opposite direction of the U.S.
currency. Gold has gained 4.7 percent this year, while the euro
had climbed 4.4 percent against the dollar. The dollar index, a

Silver Lake says going public not on radar

(Reuters) - "I'm not ruling anything out," said Glenn Hutchins, co-founder
and managing director of Silver Lake, on the sidelines of a
conference held by the Wall Street Journal. "But, look, we are
nine years old. Blackstone is over 20 years old. There's a lot
that you do in terms of developing your business over the course
of that time period. It's just not something that is on our radar
screen."

Blackstone became the first major U.S. private-equity firm to
go public, debuting last week and rising 13 percent in its first
day of trading, minting billions of dollars of new wealth for its

Gold Rallies From 12-Week Low as Equities, Oil Costs Gain; Silver Rises

(Bloomberg) -- Gold rose from a 12-week low in New
York on speculation that last week's slump was overdone because
rising equity markets and higher energy costs will boost the
metal's appeal as a hedge against inflation. Silver gained.

Gold's 3.9 percent decline last week was the biggest in
three months, as the threat of higher interest rates led some
investors to sell the metal to cover losses in the equity
markets. U.S. stocks rebounded on June 8 after floor trading in
gold ended and European stocks rose today.

Gold Declines in London as Dollar Extends Gains Against Euro; Silver Drops

(Bloomberg) -- Gold dropped in London on expectations
that a rebound in the dollar against the euro may reduce demand
for the precious metal as an alternative investment. Silver fell
for a second day.

Gold gained 23 percent last year as the dollar dropped 10
percent against the euro and rising prices for raw materials such
as copper, orange juice and corn spurred demand for a hedge
against inflation. The dollar has rebounded from a record low in
April and U.S. consumer price increases slowed.
