Advanced Medical bids $4.23 bln for Bausch&Lomb

(Reuters) - Advanced Medical's offer is valued at $75 a share, of which $45 is in cash and $30 in stock, the companies said. That offer compares with a $65 a share offer made by Warburg Pincus in May. Bausch & Lomb's takeover agreement from Warburg Pincus allowed it to solicit other bids for 50 days.




"It's hard to find a way to argue that $75 isn't superior to $65," said Jeff Johnson, an analyst at Robert Baird.

Private equity leads European cable deals- report

(Reuters) - The report singled out Cinven [CINV.UL], Carlyle Group,
Providence Equity Partners and Warburg Pincus [WP.UL] as being
particularly active.




Private equity actively invested in the cable industry in
the wake of the 2002 technology sector bubble bursting.

Boeing, Bon-Ton Stores, Komag, Patterson, Stein Mart: U.S. Equity Movers

(Bloomberg) -- The following is a list of companies
whose shares are having unusual price changes in U.S. exchanges
today. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names.
Share prices are as of 11:40 a.m. New York time.

Bausch & Lomb (BOL US) rose $3.20, or 4.8 percent, to
$69.65 and traded as high as $70.50. Advanced Medical Optics
Inc. (EYE US) said it will consider topping the $3.7 billion bid
from Warburg Pincus for Bausch & Lomb. Advanced Medical
mentioned no price, although CNBC reported the offer could
exceed $70 a share.

Former Houghton Mifflin owners bid for Thomson unit

(Reuters) - German media giant Bertelsmann is considering teaming up with that bidding group, according to a separate source. Reuters reported last week that Bertelsmann was mulling an offer with private equity for the unit, but did not identify the firms.

Apax Partners and Warburg Pincus are also involved in the auction, sources said, with the two buyout firms bidding separately for the unit.
