Copper Futures Tumble in Shanghai on Concern U.S. Economic Growth May Slow

(Bloomberg) -- Copper prices fell the most in more
than two months in Shanghai amid speculation that an economic
slowdown in the U.S., the second-largest consumer of the metal,
will reduce demand. Zinc and aluminum futures also dropped.

Growth in U.S. service industries slowed more than forecast
in July, and U.S. employers added fewer jobs last month than
projected, reports showed Aug. 3. Stockpiles of copper, which
sometimes moves in tandem with economic growth, also increased
last week as summer holidays and maintenance hurt demand.

Copper Rises in London on Stockpile Drop, `Tight' Supply; Zinc, Tin Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Copper rose for the first time in
six days in London on falling stockpiles and speculation that a
lack of new mine supply and a shortage of ore will curb
production of the metal this year. Zinc and tin also advanced.

Stockpiles of copper monitored by the London Metal Exchange
fell 1 percent to 101,800 metric tons, the exchange said today
in a daily report. Demand for the metal used in pipes beat
production by 265,000 tons in the first four months of the year,
the International Copper Study Group said earlier this month.

Copper Rises to One-Month High on Chile, Falling Stockpiles; Zinc Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Copper prices rose in Asia to a one-
month high on concern labor disputes in Chile, the world's
largest source of the metal, may disrupt supplies and further
deplete global stockpiles. Zinc was also higher.

Inventories monitored by the London Metal Exchange dropped
for a seventh straight day, by 1,650 metric tons to 110,375 tons,
the exchange said yesterday. Contract workers at Dona Ines de
Collahuasi, Chile's third-largest copper mine, plan to strike on
July 9 after they found an improved wage offer too low.
