Shari Redstone may leave Viacom board: source

(Reuters) - Viacom shares rose 3.5 percent as her possible departure revived questions over who might succeed the 84-year-old mogul, stoking speculation the company could be sold, one industry analyst said. Viacom owns the MTV Networks and Paramount movie studios.




Shari Redstone, 52, sits on the board of Viacom and CBS Corp. and was viewed as a potential successor to her father.

Web radio stations set for 'Day of Silence' protest

(Reuters) - The 'Day of Silence' is being organized by SaveNetRadio
Coalition, whose 14,000 members include: Yahoo Inc.,
Viacom Inc , and RealNetworks Inc..




SaveNetRadio said the U.S. Copyright Royalty Board's March
decision to boost royalty rates will kill the fledgling
industry, if goes into effect on July 15. It is hoping the 'Day
of Silence' will help raise public awareness of the issue.

Google's YouTube in $1bn lawsuit

MTV owner Viacom said on Tuesday it has sued YouTube and its corporate parent Google in federal court for alleged copyright infringement and is seeking more than $1bn in damages.
Viacom claims that the more than 160 000 unauthorised video clips from its cable networks, which also include Comedy Central, VH1 and Nickelodeon, have been available on the popular video-sharing website.

The lawsuit marks a sharp escalation of long-simmering tensions between Viacom and YouTube. Last month Viacom demanded that YouTube remove more than 100 000 unauthorised clips after several months of talks between the companies broke down.
