Subprime woe, Bernanke talk hit US stocks; IBM up late

(Reuters) - U.S. stocks fell on Wednesday on deepening concerns that a crisis in lending could spread and a warning from the Federal Reserve chairman that weakness in housing could hurt economic growth for some time.

Disappointing results from technology bellwethers also weighed on stocks. Shares of Intel Corp. and Yahoo fell nearly 5 percent after their quarterly scorecards fell short of some expectations.

U.S. Stock Index Futures Fall After Intel, Yahoo Reports: After-Hours Wrap

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stock index futures dropped
after results from Intel Corp., the biggest chipmaker, and Yahoo!
Inc., owner of the most-visited U.S. Web site, spurred concern
that profit forecasts for technology companies are too high.

Intel slid $1.17, or 4.4 percent, to $25.16 as of 6:09 p.m.
in New York after its profit margin trailed forecasts. Yahoo lost
$1.08, or 3.9 percent, to $26.49 as earnings declined.

Web radio stations set for 'Day of Silence' protest

(Reuters) - The 'Day of Silence' is being organized by SaveNetRadio
Coalition, whose 14,000 members include: Yahoo Inc.,
Viacom Inc , and RealNetworks Inc..




SaveNetRadio said the U.S. Copyright Royalty Board's March
decision to boost royalty rates will kill the fledgling
industry, if goes into effect on July 15. It is hoping the 'Day
of Silence' will help raise public awareness of the issue.

Yahoo unifies ad sales as key sales exec leaves

(Reuters) - The restructuring of top U.S. sales management follows the company's warning last week that a nearly year-long slowdown in its display ad business -- the online banner ads and other methods -- would lead to weaker second-quarter results.




Bank of America analyst Brian Pitz said Millard's departure could have a negative impact on Yahoo's display/branded advertising business.

Yahoo in search deal with Asian mobile operators

(Reuters) - Yahoo's oneSearch service lets users download e-mails, search the Internet, view Web pictures and check weather conditions.




Internet companies Yahoo, Google and Microsoft see offering its products on cell phones as one of the most important sources of future growth as subscribers climb globally.

Yahoo investors see CEO switch as more of the same

(Reuters) - Yahoo shares dropped 1.5 percent on Tuesday, partly retracing gains of more than 6 percent in extended trading on Monday after the company said co-founder Jerry Yang would take over the chief executive role from Terry Semel.




Some shareholders had bet that Yang's taking the helm signaled more drastic changes, such as extensive partnerships with technology and media players, or even a potential merger.

REFILE-Ron Burkle may bid for Dow Jones this week -report

(Reuters) - Burkle, a member of Yahoo! Inc.'s board of
directors, has been trying to enlist Yahoo! as a partner for a
bid, according to the report.




Burkle is also considering other partnerships in conjunction
with Dow Jones's union, Fortune said, citing a source in the
Burkle camp and adding that the billionaire has a history of
being a strong union supporter.

Yahoo to provide music services for Sandisk player

(Reuters) - The device, first introduced in January, is now available for sale in the United States, according to Sandisk, which says it is the No. 2 seller in the U.S. of MP3 players, behind Apple Inc.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Yahoo brand goes 'universal'

Coming off a year in which it was overshadowed by several internet rivals, Yahoo is piggybacking on some of the entertainment industry's leading brands in its latest attempt to bolster its own brand.

The "Brand Universe" initiative, unveiled at a media luncheon in Sunnyvale earlier this week, will showcase a pop-culture potpourri of TV shows, movies, video games and celebrities on 100 different websites that Yahoo plans to create later this year.
