JGBs rise as Treasuries climb, Nikkei erases gains

(Reuters) - Bond investors watched movements in the Tokyo stock market
closely this week as they believe the Bank of Japan will take
recent volatility in equities into account when it decides
whether to raise interest rates at its Aug. 22-23 policy meeting.

"The JGB market will stay under the strong influence of
external factors as the BOJ is unlikely to lift interest rates
before investor risk aversion ends," said Naomi Hasegawa, a
senior fixed-income strategist at Mitsubishi UFJ Securities.

JGBs slip on Treasury losses, post-auction selling

(Reuters) - JGBs trimmed some losses after Moody's Investors Service
placed Japan's sovereign rating on review for a possible upgrade,
but analysts said JGBs overall showed muted reaction to the news.

Treasuries fell on Tuesday in thin trade before the U.S.
Independence Day holiday, hurt by a firm stock market and
surprisingly strong factory orders that pushed benchmark yields
up to 5.05 percent, lifting them from a one-month low hit earlier
in the week.

JGBs down, hit by weak Treasuries, 10-year sale

(Reuters) - Traders said they were looking at the U.S. bond market for
direction as JGB prices were expected to move in narrow ranges
ahead of next week's policy meeting by the Bank of Japan, having
digested key data, the auction and speeches by BOJ officials.

"Sluggish demand for the new 10-year issue has weighed on
sentiment, at least in that sector, as the paper is seen as
expensive relative to other maturities," said Kenro Kawano, a
fixed income strategist at Credit Suisse.
The 10-year JGB sale on Tuesday drew lower-than-expected
demand from dealers despite a 1.9 percent coupon, which was the
highest since August, because dealers had wanted a re-opening of
the No. 286 1.8 percent issue to ease their shortage in the repo
market.

JGBs tumble, hurt by losses in Treasuries

(Reuters) - An unexpected rate hike by New Zealand a day after the
European Central Bank hiked rates to curb price pressure ignited
fears of tighter monetary policy worldwide, intensifying a
sell-off in U.S. Treasuries on Thursday.

The benchmark 10-year JGB yield spiked up to a fresh 10-month
high above 1.9 percent while benchmark euroyen futures fell to a
decade low.

JGB futures down but hold above 10-month low

(Reuters) - JGBs have been sold off since late May amid a steady rise in
yields on euro zone government bonds and U.S. Treasuries, and as
solid Japanese data reinforced the view that the Bank of Japan
could hike rates as early as August.

After the two-year yield scaled a 10-year high above 1
percent and the five-year yield hit an 11-month high, traders
said they were looking at stock markets and global yields for
clues on whether these maturities, which are most sensitive to
monetary policy changes, could be sold further.

JGB futures claw back from 10-month low

(Reuters) - JGBs clawed back, pulling the 10-year yield down slightly
from a seven-month peak, as market players covered short
positions that had built up during the two-week slide.

But sentiment remained weak as Treasuries extended their
tumble the previous day and the U.S. 10-year yield pushed to a
10-month high near 5.0 percent.

JGBs slip on Nikkei rise, falls in Treasuries

(Reuters) - Instead, investors were likely to take their cues from
auctions of 15-year floating rate bonds and 20-year bonds later
this week, as well as Japanese economic data for April due
towards the end of the month.

"U.S. Treasury yields rose to 4.8 percent and that seems to
be prompting some selling of JGBs," said Naomi Hasegawa, senior
fixed income strategist for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities.

JGB futures hit 3-month low as Nikkei extends rally

(Reuters) - The offering met with solid demand, but with the Ministry of Finance due to offer 500 billion yen of 10-year consumer price-linked JGBs on Thursday, further supply was expected to put some upward pressure on long-dated bond yields.

"This month's supply is larger than it was in March," said Bin Gao, head of Pacific Rim interest rate research at Merrill Lynch. "Also, the recovery in U.S. equities should boost investor sentiment and weigh on JGBs."
