Japan's Nikkei 225 Average, Topix Falls; Toyota, JFE Holdings Lead Decline

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese shares dropped, paced by
companies that rely on the U.S. market, after Caterpillar Inc.
said its profit dropped on lower North American sales. Exporters
such as Honda Motor Co. and Komatsu Ltd. led losses.

Investors also refrained from betting heavily on stocks
before the upper house election, which will be held on July 29.
The Nikkei newspaper reported yesterday Japan's ruling coalition
may lose its majority in the election, citing its own poll.

Japan's Nikkei 225 Average, Topix Rise; Toyota, Nippon Steel Lead Climb

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose
166.85, or 1 percent, to 18,150.99 as of 9:03 a.m. in Tokyo. The
broader Topix index added 17.87, or 1 percent , to 1780.93.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Nippon Steel Corp. led the advances.

Asian Stocks Resume July Rally on Economic Growth; Samsung, Komatsu Climb

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks rose, driving the Nikkei
225 Stock Average to a seven-year high, on signs economic growth
in Japan and South Korea is accelerating.

Komatsu Ltd. gained after a government report showed
machinery orders in Japan rose more than forecast in May. Samsung
Electronics Co. led the Kospi index, the world's third-best
performer this month, to a fourth straight high after the
commerce ministry raised its forecast for South Korean exports.

Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average, Topix Index Rise; Sony, Nissan Pace Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rose 18.86, or 0.1 percent, to 18,168.76 at 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index added 2.58, or 0.1 percent, to
1784.44.

Sony Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. paced the advances.

Japanese Stocks Climb; Ibiden, Toshiba, Seven & I Gain on Growth Outlook

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks climbed, led by
exporters after the Federal Reserve said the housing slowdown
won't keep the U.S. economy from expanding and the yen weakened.

Share also gained after reports showed Japan's household
spending rose for a fifth month in May, the jobless rate held at
a nine-year low and consumer prices slipped as predicted by
economists. Seven & I Holdings Co. advanced after the Nikkei
newspaper said the company will probably show a 6 percent
increase in operating profit in the latest quarter.

Japan's Nikkei 225 Average Slips, Topix Is Little Changed; Honda Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Topix index added 1.93, or
0.1 percent, to 1782.42 at 9:21 a.m. in Tokyo, after slipping as
much as 0.1 percent.

The Nikkei 225 Stock Average was little changed at
18,166.16.

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average, Topix Index Rise; Toyota, Honda Lead Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rose 165.99, or 0.9 percent, to 18,137.48 at 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index added 14.64, or 0.8 percent, to
1787.58.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. led the advances.

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average, Topix Rise; Canon, Mitsui & Co. Lead Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rose 93.35, or 0.5 percent, to 17,935.64 at 9:03 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index added 8.58, or 0.5 percent, to
1765.22.

Canon Inc. and Mitsui & Co. led the advances.

Nikkei edges lower on rate worry but exporters up

(Reuters) - A weaker yen is a boon to companies that make the bulk of their sales abroad because it boosts profits when earnings from abroad are brought home.




The Nikkei shed 28.14 points to 17,732.77, while the broader TOPIX index was 0.33 percent lower at 1,745.92.

Japan's Five-Year Notes Fall; Yields Rise to 11-Month High as Stocks Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's government notes fell,
pushing five-year yields to the highest in 11 months, on
speculation a gain in share prices will cut demand for debt.

Yields on five-year notes have climbed faster than those on
10-year securities since the start of last month on increasing
concern the Bank of Japan will raise borrowing costs again this
year. The Nikkei 225 Stock Average advanced for a fourth day,
the longest stretch since March.

Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average, Topix Index Rise; Mizuho, Sony Lead Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rose 101.29, or 0.6 percent, to 18,060.17 at 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index added 14.03, or 0.8 percent, to
1781.91.

Mizuho Financial Group Inc. and Sony Corp. led the advances.

Hitachi, Oracle to sell China anti-piracy tags: report

(Reuters) - Hitachi and Oracle expect increasing demand for so-called IC, or integrated circuit, tags for a wide range of products, including cash vouchers, luxury items and home appliances, the Nikkei said, without giving a source for the information.




No-one at Hitachi or the local unit of Oracle could be reached for comment.

JGBs slump as BOJ worries bite, Treasuries slide

(Reuters) - The benchmark 10-year yield hit a seven-month high while
futures prices fell to a fresh nine-month low as the market's
sell-off extended on the rise in the Nikkei share average to a
three-month peak.




The two-year yield hit a decade high of 0.995 percent and
jumped 7 basis points on the week -- the biggest one-week
increase since May last year when market players were
anticipating the end of zero interest rates.

Japan's Five-Year Government Notes Drop, Have Worst Month Since March 2006

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's five-year government notes had
the biggest monthly decline in more than a year on speculation
advancing stocks will back the case for the central bank to raise
interest rates this year.

Government reports this week showed the jobless rate dropped
to a nine-year low and households increased spending for a fourth
month. Bank of Japan policy board member Kiyohiko Nishimura said
the market ``appears to be factoring in future rate adjustments
in a gradual manner.'' Yields on two-year notes climbed to the
highest in almost a decade as the Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose
to a three-month high.

Japanese 10-Year Bond Yield at Highest Since February as Stocks Rebound

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's 10-year bond yields held near
the highest since February after the Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rebounded from the biggest decline in a month.

Two-year yields were at the highest since 1997 before reports
this week that are forecast to show Japanese industrial production
rose and U.S. hiring increased. Signs of faster growth in the
world's two biggest economies may encourage the Bank of Japan to
raise interest rates again this year.

Japan Air Default Swaps Plunge on Report Banks May Cancel Debt, Take Stake

(Bloomberg) -- The perceived risk of owning bonds of
Japan Airlines Corp. declined after a report said the carrier
asked its main banks for up to 400 billion yen ($3.3 billion) to
reduce debt.

The airline has asked lenders to convert any new loans into
equity in the airline, Nikkei English News said today, citing
unidentified people close to the situation. Asia's most indebted
carrier forecast this month its first profit in three years after
losing 64 billion yen over the past two years.

Nikko to name three Citigroup execs to board-report

(Reuters) - The Nikkei said in its evening edition that Nikko had decided
to make the appointments, which include Citibank Japan Chief
Executive Douglas Peterson, in a bid to regain market trust after
an accounting scandal.




Citigroup launched its buyout bid after the accounting
scandal which hurt business at core retail unit Nikko Cordial
Securities and Nikko Citigroup Ltd., the companies'
eight-year-old investment banking joint venture.

Nikkei down 1.7 pct on higher yen, weak Asia stocks

(Reuters) - Expectations that Japanese companies will present conservative earnings forecasts for the current business year also prompted investor selling.

The Nikkei was down 295.36 points at 17,371.97, its lowest close since April 13. It was the largest daily fall since March 14.

JGBs tumble as Nikkei racks up strong gains

(Reuters) - The Nikkei stock average rose more than 1.5 percent, lifted by easing concerns about volatility in U.S. equities. This helped push benchmark 10-year yields to six-week highs as investors dumped bonds for riskier stocks.

A heavy slate of debt auctions this month and a break of key technical levels added to the negative tone in the JGB market.

JGB futures hit three-month low as Nikkei rallies

(Reuters) - The 10-year yield rose 1.5 basis points to 1.670 percent, matching a one-month high hit last week.
