Toyota Electric Car May Have Half the Range of GM's, People Familiar Say

(Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp.'s plug-in electric
car may have less than half the range of a competing vehicle
planned by General Motors Corp., people with knowledge of both
companies' development programs said.

GM wants its Chevrolet Volt to travel at least 40 miles
after being charged once at a normal household outlet, while the
Toyota model may go no more than 20 miles on a single charge,
said the people, who asked not to be identified because details
of the plans are still secret.

UPDATE 1-Denso, other Toyota suppliers lift H1 forecasts

(Reuters) - TOKYO, July 26 - Top Japanese auto parts maker
Denso Corp. posted a 15 percent jump in quarterly profit
as top shareholder Toyota Motor Corp. and other domestic
carmakers boosted production overseas, and it lifted its
half-year forecasts partly on the back of a weaker yen.




Other core suppliers of the Toyota group including
Aisin Seiki Co. also raised their forecasts as Toyota
expands rapidly overseas, while a rise in dividends received also
helped at Japan's top maker of transmissions.

Japan's Nikkei 225 Average, Topix Rise; Toyota, Nippon Steel Lead Climb

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose
166.85, or 1 percent, to 18,150.99 as of 9:03 a.m. in Tokyo. The
broader Topix index added 17.87, or 1 percent , to 1780.93.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Nippon Steel Corp. led the advances.

Asian Stocks Fall on Lower Metals, U.S. Earnings Concern; Toyota Declines

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell for the first time
in three days after metals prices dropped and earnings reports in
the U.S. suggested demand is cooling in the region's biggest
export market.

Toyota Motor Corp., the world's largest automaker by market
value, and James Hardie Industries NV, the No. 1 supplier of home
siding in the U.S., led declines on concern a housing slump is
harming growth in the world's biggest economy. BHP Billiton Ltd.,
the largest mining company, was set for its biggest slide in
almost two months.

Japanese Stocks Climb, Led by Toyota; Topix Gains the Most in Eight Weeks

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks climbed, sending the
Topix index to its best performance in almost eight weeks.
Exporters led the advance after the Federal Reserve said the
housing slowdown won't keep the U.S. economy from expanding and
the yen weakened.

Toyota Motor Corp. advanced to a three-month high, while
Sony Corp. gained for the first time in five days.

Japanese Stocks May Slip, Led by Toyota, After U.S. Housing Concerns Mount

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks may drop for the
first time in four days after confidence among U.S. homebuilders
fell to the lowest in 16 years, raising concern that a slumping
housing market may curb growth in the world's biggest economy.

Exporters including Toyota Motor Corp. and Advantest Corp.
may pace declines. Investors will also be looking to data on new
housing starts set to be released tonight, and mortgage
applications figures due tomorrow for clues on the U.S. real
estate market.

Japan's Nikkei Stock Average, Topix Index Rise; Toyota, Honda Lead Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average
rose 165.99, or 0.9 percent, to 18,137.48 at 9:02 a.m. in Tokyo.
The broader Topix index added 14.64, or 0.8 percent, to
1787.58.

Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. led the advances.

Asian Stocks Snap Five-Day Rally on Interest Rates Concern; Toyota Falls

(Bloomberg) -- Asian stocks fell for the first time
in six days after a higher-than-forecast gain in U.S. labor costs
fueled concern the Federal Reserve will follow Europe in raising
interest rates to tame inflation.

The Morgan Stanley Capital International Asia-Pacific Index
retreated from a record high, following declines in the U.S. and
Europe. Toyota Motor Corp., which made more than a third of its
sales in North America last year, and Samsung Electronics Co.,
Asia's largest maker of chips and mobile phones, led declines.

Japan's Auto, Commodity Shares Rise, Led by Denso, Inpex; Banks Limit Gain

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese automotive-related shares
such as Toyota Motor Corp. rose as concern eased a slowdown in
the U.S. economy will drag on the companies' profit growth.

Denso Corp., an auto-parts maker affiliate of Toyota,
jumped 2.3 percent. Inpex Holdings Inc., Japan's largest oil
explorer, advanced 0.9 percent.

Japan's Stocks Slip on Concern Minister's Suicide Weakens Abe's Government

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese stocks slipped after the
suicide of Agriculture Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka prompted
concern Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's popularity will be
undermined, reducing his chances of winning key parliamentary
elections this summer and making it harder to pass legislation.

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc. and Toyota Motor Corp.
led declines by the nation's largest companies.

Japanese Stocks Drop, Led by Exporters on Concern U.S. Rates Won't Be Cut

(Bloomberg) -- Japanese shares declined by the most
in a month. Exporters paced losses on concern the U.S. Federal
Reserve will lift borrowing costs in Japan's largest overseas
market after a report showed home sales unexpectedly climbed.

Canon Inc., the world's largest digital camera maker,
dropped 2 percent and Toyota Motor Corp., the world's No.1
automaker by market value, fell 1.5 percent.

Asian Stocks Slump on U.S. Economic Concern; Toyota, HSBC Slide

Asian stocks tumbled, extending a global sell off that wiped $1.5 trillion from the value of global equities, on concern U.S. growth will stall.

Toyota Motor Corp., the world's second-largest carmaker, slid after a government report showed consumer confidence dropped in the U.S., Asia's biggest export market. HSBC Holdings Plc, the third-largest bank, slumped after the Sunday Times said it will write off $11 billion to cover mounting losses in America.
