(Reuters) - The three new firms set up to operate the fixed-line services would also sell shares in initial public offerings before the end of 2008, said Abdulrahman al-Fehaid, deputy governor at the Communications and Information Technology Commission .
"CITC has approved the applications by the three bidders ... The commercial and technical evaluation is finished and the three firms qualified," Fehaid said.

Nippon Steel, JFE set for record profits: paper
(Reuters) - JFE, enjoying brisk sales of high-grade steel to car makers, is projected to log a pre-tax profit of 520 billion yen, also up 2 percent, the Nikkei said.
JFE will probably raise its dividend for the half-year ending on September 30 to 60 yen, up 10 yen from a year earlier, the newspaper added.

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. stocks rose, pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average to a record, after profit and economic reports were better than expected.
Honeywell International Inc., Caterpillar Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. led the Dow average's rally this week after their earnings increased more than analysts estimated. Countrywide Financial Corp. paced gains by financial shares, which climbed the most since October 2004, on optimism the so-called subprime lending crisis is contained. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index is on pace for the biggest monthly advance since December 2003.

Private equity joins hedge funds on EU risk radar
(Reuters) - European Union finance ministers may target private equity funds as well as hedge funds in their drive to tighten regulations to shore up the financial system against financial crises, a document showed on Saturday.
"There is a need for great vigilance in enforcing existing provisions on market abuse in order to sustain market integrity and confidence in (the) private equity business," the document, discussed by ministers at meetings in Berlin, said.

Report to G7 says hedge fund risks need more study
(Reuters) - Regulators should consider asking major dealer firms to provide more information about their total exposure to hedge funds, a draft report commissioned by the G7 powers says.
The report on potential risks to financial stability from the loosely regulated $1.5 trillion global industry also urged investors and counterparties to make sure hedge funds give them frequent updates about the risks they are taking.
