(Reuters) - Tokyo-based KDDI will offer services using CDMA standard, developed by Qualcomm Inc , and adopted by U.S. carriers such as Verizon and Sprint Nextel. That is different to the W-CDMA standard of technology popular in Europe and Asia.
Japanese operators have been eyeing new sources of revenue abroad as they expect slower subscriber growth in the saturated home market.

AFL-CIO to target Verizon over CEO pay
(Reuters) - "Working people are fed up with a system that showers CEOs with lavish rewards with little or no accountability," AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka said in a statement.

AFP, Google News settle lawsuit over Google News
(Reuters) - In a joint statement, the two companies said the accord allows the Internet giant to post AFP content on Google News and other services. Terms of the pact were not disclosed.
The AFP lawsuit, closely watched in the media industry, was filed in the United States and France. It sought damages and interest as well as to bar the use of AFP text and photos without prior permission. AFP agreed to withdraw the action.

Occidental CEO got more than $400 million in 2006
(Reuters) - Irani also received $93.3 million in stock and dividends from a deferred stock program when the company closed the plan in October due to increases in liability and expenses for the program, the company said.
Irani's salary in 2006 was $1.3 million and his cash bonus was $1.4 million, according to the filing. But stock and option awards and other benefits lifted his 2006 compensation to $55.6 million, the proxy said.

(Reuters) - MILAN, April 7 - Italy's Prime Minister and his industry minister weighed into a debate over ownership of former state monopoly Telecom Italia on Saturday as opposition to interest from a transatlantic team grows.
Romano Prodi said he would be against breaking up Telecom Italia for its Brazilian assets if U.S. phone giant AT&T and America Movil won control, while Pierluigi Bersani, who has the industry portfolio, called on Italian players to step in.

Two Turks kidnapped in Nigerian oil city - police
(Reuters) - Gunmen kidnapped two Turkish engineers from their car in Port Harcourt in Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta, police said on Saturday.
The men were working on a project for Merpa, a contractor to Italian oil company Agip, police said.

IMF says Tunisia growth goal depends on reforms
(Reuters) - Tunisia must move more quickly to strengthen its financial sector, free up external trade and improve the investment climate to meet its economic growth target, a senior IMF official said on Friday.
Tunisia has achieved 5 percent average annual growth in the past decade as investor-friendly reforms improved its attractiveness as a low-cost industrial and services platform on Europe's doorstep and helped fend off competition from Asia.
