(Bloomberg) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 139.17, or 0.8 percent, to 17,375.33 at 9:03 a.m. in Tokyo. The broader Topix index added 9.84, or 0.6 percent, to 1697.18.
Canon Inc. and Sony Corp. led the advances.
