(Reuters) - The trial comes a week after the Supreme Court dealt a blow to the Bush administration by ruling that greenhouse gases meet the definition of pollutants and telling the Environmental Protection Agency to rethink its refusal to regulate carbon dioxide emissions.
Vermont, with a record of environmental measures and known for its rural beauty, is one of nine states to have followed California's lead in adopting standards that are tougher than federal rules.
